Client: South West Water
Location: Cornwall
In my former role, I worked with South West Water as Environmental Project Manager during the planning stages of wastewater treatment schemes as part of the Clean Sweep programme. Clean Sweep was a £1.5 billion project to transform the region’s bathing waters and sewerage network. It was the largest environmental programme of its kind in Europe.
Many of the schemes I worked on were within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. They included schemes serving Boscastle, Bossiney, Tintagel, Sennen, Porthcurno and Portscatho. The schemes included wastewater treatment works, pipelines and pumping stations.
I was responsible for the preparation of planning applications and Environmental Statements/Environmental Reports. I also helped organise and attend and public consultation events. I prepared screening and scoping reports.
Close liaison was required between the client, engineers and environmental specialists. These included landscape architects, ecologists, archaeologists, noise and odour specialists and traffic consultants. The team had to maintain regular contact with stakeholders, including landowners and local residents.
