Client: English Heritage
Location: Tintagel, Cornwall
In my former role, I was responsible for the coordination of the Environmental Impact Assessment and preparation of the Environmental Statement for the award winning footbridge and associated landscape improvements at Tintagel Castle.
Tintagel Castle lies within the following sensitive areas:
- Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty;
- Pentire Point – Widemouth Heritage Coast,
- Scheduled Monument (Romano-British and early medieval settlement, medieval church, castle and associated features on Tintagel Island and adjoining mainland);
- Tintagel Marsland Clovelly Coast Special Area of Conservation;
- Tintagel Cliffs Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The scheme was developed through the collaboration of a multidisciplinary team of architects, structural engineers, ecologists, landscape architects, archaeologists and other technical specialists.
The scheme has won multiple awards, including:
- the Showcase Award at the ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards 2020; and
- Permanent Exhibition of the Year at the 2020 Museum + Heritage Awards.
It has been shortlisted for the South West RIBA Regional Awards 2020 and is a finalist for the Landscape Institute Awards 2020.
